Thane & Prose Press

A Tradition of Quality

Thane & Prose Press is a literary imprint committed to a tradition of quality publishing, both in the excellence of its authors and the quality of the production of its books.

Established in 2014 by N. Thane Boulton, a 30-year publishing veteran, Thane & Prose Press is distinguished both by new authors of fiction and nonfiction, as well as the authors Thane has published for many years—writers who have been staunchly supported by booksellers and reviewers.

The future of the printed word has been the subject of much debate, led mostly by a chorus chanting its certain extinction. Thane & Prose Press believes that the quality of an engaging and well written work of fiction, poetry or nonfiction is not diluted by any one method of printing or display. Therefore, Thane & Prose Press acquires the author’s work for traditional soft and hardback print publication, and distributes to over 39,000 retailers, libraries, distributors, and educational institutions throughout The United States—and worldwide throughout 41 nations. In conjunction, Thane & Prose Press publishes its titles digitally across 70 different digital platforms, including iPad, Kobo, Kindle and Nook.

Equal Marketing & Public Relations Strategies For All of Our Authors

The majority of publishing houses have reduced their publicity and marketing budgets significantly over the past ten years, reserving those dollars for mass market books, celebrity titles, and serialized, cross-marketed books.

The result is a sea of press-worthy books left for the author to publicize on his or her own. While the inception of social media has empowered media civilians with some publicity tools, they have yet to match the reach achieved by national print, network television, radio, and webisode media impressions acquired through a carefully-timed strategic plan.

To that end, Thane Boulton leverages his more than twenty years of national publicity success in order to garner the largest possible audience for his authors. Our media impressions include an amalgam of multiple placements, such as The New York Times, The Today Show, Entertainment Tonight, Vh1, Oprah’s O Magazine, Anderson Cooper 360, CBS MarketWatch, CNN, The View, Martha Stewart Living and many more.

Today, acquiring press for oneself is not the challenge it once was; in fact, acquiring is no longer the challenge at all. Because of that, Thane & Prose designs story-driven public relations plans focused on the author’s personal journey as a way to distinguish him or her within the market—and add deeper meaning to the discourse generated by their work whether he or she is an established author, or presenting their first work of literature.

The Thane & Prose Press Bookstore

In addition to libraries and bookstores where Thane & Prose books can be found worldwide, we also sell our books directly to consumers through the Thane & Prose Press Bookstore.

Thane & Prose proudly invests in superior materials for all of its books: durable linen for its hardcovers, hearty papers for its rich matte finish dust jackets and paperback covers, and elegant, acid-free cream papers for all of its interior pages.

Designed by our award winning Design Directors Jerry Holthouse and Lynn Rawden, all Thane & Prose books are printed in The United States.

Author Submissions

If you would like to have your work considered for publication by Thane & Prose, we recommend that you work with an established literary agent. For guidelines on preparing a query letter or proposal or finding an agent and/or publisher, we suggest that you check sources such as the Literary Market Place, The Writers Market, The Authors Guild, or contact at our sister company Thane & Prose Editorial Agency, which offers book proposal assistance for new authors.

Unfortunately, due to the large volume of submissions received, Thane & Prose does not accept unsolicited manuscripts or book proposals at this time.

Our Philanthropy

THE THANE AND PROSE YOUNG AUTHORS GRANT.jpg 13450882_1557455531215972_7300958139295963257_n.jpg

Thane & Prose Press is also dedicated to the development of young authors; pursuant to that, the press awards an annual Thane & Prose Young Authors Grant to the one writer whose work we and our advisory board of university creative writing professors, literary journalists, and other published authors determine is an exceptional work worthy of publication. The grant provides authors with manuscript development, in the common case of partial manuscripts; complete manuscript editorial services; the publication of their title; a 100% royalty; and the marketing and promotion of their book.

The Thane & Prose Reading Tutors Fund is exclusively dedicated to providing American public schools with additional reading and reading comprehension tutors. Thus far, Thane & Prose has placed over 33 in class and after school support services for elementary, middle, and high school students in need of additional resources to aid their reading development.
